To live on or off campus, that is the question? Most college students if not all will be faced with this question. Here are some advantages of living on campus at least for your freshman and/or Sophomore year.
1. Campus Involvement
Living on campus has it's own culture! There's exciting about being on a college campus. The Energy is so free and electric! It is said that students are more likely to participate in campus activities if they stay on campus. You are also more informed on what's happening on campus than you would be if you lived off campus.
2.Convenience
Everything you need for the most part is right on campus. Food!! Most campuses have a variety of food options from the cafeteria ( "The Caf") and even other fast-food options. However I must warn you be careful of the "Freshman 15" (gaining 15lbs during freshman year) Lol! There is a gym on campus, use it!! You also have computer labs, libraries and oh yea all your classes are there!!
3. Social Life
Most students living on campus meet new friends on campus and through campus actives. For some people this is your first time being away from your family and or out of state. Living on campus will help you build a sense of community. Some of the people you meet your 1st & 2nd year could become life long friends!
4. Safety
Most college campuses have campus police presence on campus. As we all know, no place is completely safe and you must always beware of your surroundings.
5. Leadership
If you enjoyed your time living on campus you can become a Resident Assistant (RA). After you have lived on campus for at least a full year you can apply for this leadership position. This position differs from institution to institution, but in general you would be in charge of an entire floor of students in the dorms. This could be a cool way to encourage and create a fun and safe environment on campus!!! One of the best things is, you get your own room and sweet perks that could include free room and board!
When in your life will you have the opportunity to live in a campus environment? Never! If you choose the path of college, get the full college experience by staying on campus at least one or if not all four years. Enjoy campus life while you can, trust me you will be living off campus for the rest of your life!!
